We rely on our utility electrical system to deliver reliable continuous services to customers. At the same time, policy makers are demanding that we convert our power supply to renewable sources like wind and solar. This Badger Club Forum looks at the impacts these decisions will have on users since green power from wind and solar depends on weather conditions to work.
Can these politically-favored green power sources meet our need for a steady reliable power grid? Is it smart to discourage existing steady fossil fuel and nuclear power generation? Utilities must continue to deliver steady power output to customers like hospitals, schools, factories and offices. Our elevated standard of living and, in certain cases, even our lives depend on that reliable power. This Columbia Basin Badger Club Forum will focus on these issues: What is the regional plan to maintain a stable utility grid; and what low carbon alternatives can be applied without destabilizing the grid; and Is there a reliable nuclear option that can address load swings and help stabilize the utility grid?
Speakers will be Rick Dunn, Senior Director of Engineering and Power Management at Benton County PUD, and Dr. James Conca, Senior Scientist at UFA Ventures. Please register now for the Badger Club Forum February 21, 2019, at the Richland Red Lion Inn, beginning at 11:30 am.
