Higher Education In the Tri-Cities:
What's New? What's Different? What's Needed?

Higher education is an important component of what we are, and hope to be, as a competitive community. Community leaders fought hard to bring Columbia Basin College and Washington State University Tri-Cities to our community with what some would say is a mixed record of success.

Now, both institutions have collaborative new leaders who have been here a year or less. . . enough time to figure out what’s working and not and to begin to develop plans to right it.

Don’t miss this important opportunity to hear the leaders of these two institutions discuss their challenges, their opportunities, and their visions for the future as they answer questions posed by the Badger Club in a unique new format.

Please register now for the Badger Club Forum March 28, 2019, at the Richland Shilo Inn, beginning at 11:30 am.

Dr. Sandra Haynes, Chancellor of Washington State University Tri-Cities

Dr. Haynes became Chancellor of WSU Tri-Cities in March of 2018. She previously served as the deputy provost and vice president of academic affairs and a professor in the Department of Human Services at the Metropolitan State University of Denver and was dean of the university’s College of Professional Studies for 13 years. Chancellor Haynes is a licensed psychologist. She earned her doctorate and master’s degrees in experimental neuropsychology at Colorado State University, where she also completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her leadership skills and collaborative approach to building innovative partnerships promises an exciting future for WSU Tri-Cities as we continue to grow enrollment, academic programs and facilities. As an academic, she believes it is vital to feed the life of the mind, contribute to disciplinary knowledge and to be of service to the communities in which she lives and works—a belief shared in the mission of WSU Tri-Cities.

Dr. Rebekah Wood, President of Columbia Basin College

Rebekah Woods became the sixth president for Columbia Basin College in November 2017.  Prior to joining CBC, she was the Provost at Jackson College in Jackson, Michigan.  She has over 20 years’ experience in higher education.  President Woods earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership and Juris Doctor from Regent University.  She believes in the transformational power of an education and is committed to meeting the educational needs of the Tri-Cities and helping all students succeed at CBC.  She and her husband, Robert, are new to Washington but are proud to call the Tri-Cities home.
